Fast X - A High-Octane Roller Coaster Ride around the world

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Latest installment of the wildly popular Fast and Furious franchise available to own on 4K & BLU-RayTM August 15

By: Eugene Sirianni

"Fast X" takes the supremely popular Fast and Furious franchise to new heights of adrenaline-pumping action and gravity-defying stunts. With its heart-stopping sequences taking place in Los Angeles, Rome, London and Brazil, the charismatic cast, and a twisting plot, this installment proves that even after ten films, the series still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

The film picks up the pace right from the start, throwing audiences into a world of high-speed chases, reality-ignoring stunts, and impossible feats of driving prowess. Director Louis Leterrier orchestrates the frenetic action scenes, combining practical effects and CGI to leave viewers on the edge of their seats. The fans of the franchise will recognize the creative and often over-the-top ways in which cars are utilized as weapons and tools.

Vin Diesel returns as Dominic Toretto, leading the pack with his signature moody attitude unwavering family loyalty. The camaraderie between the core cast members, including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Jordana Brewster, is as important as ever, providing both humor and depth amidst the chaos. The newcomer to the series, Jason Momoa (Aquaman), steals the show as the diabolical and yet wildly humourous Dante Reyes, injecting dark comedy into film and snagging all of the best one-liners.

The plot of "Fast X" is positioned as a kind of sequel or reckoning to arguably the franchise's best past film "Fast 5". Dom and his family must defend themselves against a mystery man who turns out to be the son the corrupt kingpin who ruled and ruined Rio de Janeiro five movies ago. With his father gone, Dante is looking for payback in the form of suffering. The film brings audiences back to some of Fast 5's best scenes including the Rio street race and the bridge scene climax.

One minor drawback is the film's huge cast is split up into as many as 5 different stories lines as the family reunites with characters from almost every other film in the series. The mulitple cameos give audience members exactly what they want - once more chance to see their favourites on screen. Always willing to bring back characters from the dead, or at least characters the audience thought were dead, this film continues that theme.

"Fast X" doesn't aim to reinvent the wheel, but rather to give fans exactly what they've come to expect from the franchise: an exhilarating ride filled with fast cars, unreal stunts, and a strong sense of family. It's a testament to the filmmakers' ability to continually innovate within the confines of the action genre. The movie ends on a cliff hanger with the fate of much of Dom's "family" in question. As the credits roll, make sure you stay tuned for one last surprising cameo!

"Fast X" is a must-watch for fans of the franchise and a must own on digital, 4K and BLU-Ray for the extensive bonus content. Don't miss "JASON MOMOA: CONQUERING ROME" as the actor discusses his character, biking down the narrow streets of Rome and doing his own stunts. "THIS IS FAMILY" looks at the "Fast and Furious" characters and reveals intimate views of epic stunts and gets personal about the beginning of the end of the FAST franchise.

While the ending of "Fast X" leaves fans wondering the fate the characters, one thing is clear - over the course of 10 films, Toretto and his family have overcome impossible odds to outsmart, out-nerve and outdrive every foe.
